    • SURETTE, Harold Joseph ? 95, of Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau, Yarmouth County, passed away peacefully at Yarmouth Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 18, 2008. Born in Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau, he was the son of the late Existe and Rosalie (Pothier) Surette. He was a mink rancher and carpenter. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was an active member of his community, having been, after retirement, president of the parish council of Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 8988. During his working life he was a school trustee and local president of the Progressive Conservative Party. He was a founding member of the West Pubnico Golf and Country Club, and was noted locally for having golfed into his 93rd year. He is survived by daughter Eloise, Halifax; sons Benoit, Ste-Anne-du-Ruisseau, and Ralph (Lynn), Belleville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also survived by sisters Clemente (Doug) Leverman, Halifax; Agnes Doucette, Villa-St-Joseph-du-Lac, Dayton; Isabelle Quirion, Toronto, and brothers Alfred, West Pubnico and Augustin (Gus), Nakile Home for Special Care, Argyle. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Marie (d'Entremont), who died in 2005, sisters Eva (Bernard) Surette, Mabel (Leonard) Surette and Ir?ne, brother R?mi and a brother, Sylvestre, in infancy.
