  Pvt. Yingling was killed when the USAT Dorchester was torpedoed by a German U-boat. Yingling-Ridgely VFW Post #7472 in Ellicott City is named partially in his honor. Besides this cenotaph, he is also memorialized on the East Coast Memorial in New York City.
